How can you help parents/carers?
I believe that it is very important for parents/carers to be actively involved in their child’s mental health and emotional well-being as such I am able to offer parents support in understanding why their child may be presenting in the way they are and devise at strategies to help. I am also an adoptive parent and have lived experience of supporting a struggling child, I have understanding of how powerless and concerned a parent can feel when their child is struggling and how important it is to work with professionals who are empathic and understanding of the whole situation.
Why is it important to work closely with the school?
School is a huge part of a child’s life and can have a significant effect, positive and negative, on a child’s well-being and mental health. I believe that every school should be attachment aware and trauma informed and that this can be achieved through close work with attachment and trauma specialists. Schools that I have worked with have been able to successfully work with children who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences and to create a culture of support and empathy.
What are you specialisms?
I have worked with children and young people for many years and have a lot of experience and understanding about mental health and emotional well-being. I specialise in attachment, trauma, developmental trauma, PTSD and CPTSD and am qualified in delivering EMDR. I also specialise in using play and drama in therapy.
