At HSR Psychology we ensure that we meet the needs of children and young people. To achieve this we ensure that any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work, is only carried out following an initial discussion.
An initial discussion allows us to understand the background and your expectations of our involvement. Having an initial discussion ensures any services we provide appropriately identify or address needs.
Our process for any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work is as follows:
The presence of a conversion disorder is assessed by a medical professional, or team, who can rule out physical causes of any needs.
HSR Psychology assesses the needs associated with conversion disorders through a range of methods, including clinical interviews, psychometric assessments and observations.
Conversion disorders are complex and psychological input can assess and address both the underlying cause and associated difficulties, including:
Due to the broad range of areas associated with conversion disorders it is important that the HSR Psychology professional gathers information and carries out various assessments as part of a holistic assessment for conversion disorders.
Once an assessment is complete, needs are identified so that we can then recommend future steps. An intervention carried out by one of our specialist decreases the risk of difficulties escalating.
As most conversion disorders have an emotional or trauma-related cause, it is likely that a psychological intervention will be recommended by ourselves to address the underlying cause of the conversion disorder. A range of interventions for conversion disorders may be suggested following an assessment.
We can write up the identified needs into a brief or a comprehensive report with recommendations. We will discuss that during the initial discussion.

A combination of interventions may be suggested to address an individual’s conversion disorder in order to take a holistic approach to intervention.
Due to the variety of assessments which may be carried out, the assessment for needs associated with conversion disorders may vary in length. We can provide a quote following an initial discussion.
