What happens prior to an online safety intervention?

Before an online safety intervention can be carried out, an initial discussion takes place. Our process is described below.

Our process

At HSR Psychology we ensure that we meet the needs of children and young people. To achieve this we ensure that any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work, is only carried out following an initial discussion.

We will usually be contacted by the child or young person, parent or carer, or another professional (eg education or health).

You can contact us or complete a referral

What happens during an online safety intervention?

An online safety intervention can be carried out on an individual or group basis. The young person will be taught about the risks associated with online use, for example cybercrime and addiction to gaming. The individual will usually be taught strategies for preventing risks from escalating and knowing where to get help. Self-esteem related risks may be addressed by teaching the child or young person confidence boosting techniques. Online safety interventions can take place in the home, in an education setting or at one of our Manchester based clinics.

What happens after an online safety intervention?

After an online safety intervention the young person will have learned to recognise when their online usage is impacting their life and be able to use effective strategies accordingly. Following an online safety intervention we may suggest that we plan out follow up sessions, if needed. Outcomes from an online safety intervention will be provided through either a feedback session or a written report, as preferred. You will receive our support through the whole intervention process. That is why we also offer the option to receive follow-up support.

Does an online safety intervention include a report?

Following an intervention, we always recommend a report that will encompass; what took place, the impact that we made, and recommendations we have for the future. Reports from an online safety intervention can have a range of uses. Reasons for requesting an online safety intervention vary. Should a written report not be needed, feedback can be provided one-to-one verbally, along with a short summary. Please, Read more about our reports.
