What happens prior to a solution-focused approach?

A solution-focused approach can be considered following an initial discussion with us, please see the process involved below.

Our process

At HSR Psychology we ensure that we meet the needs of children and young people. To achieve this we ensure that any specific assessments, intervention, or direct work, is only carried out following an initial discussion.

What happens during a solution-focused approach?

During a solution-focused approach, the professional will often work with the child or young person to identify specific areas in life in which the individual is having difficulties. The HSR Psychology professional will pinpoint behaviours which are helping the young person to reach a solution to their difficulties. The child or young person will usually be prompted to think about what their end goal is and how they can achieve this. A solution-focused approach can be used alongside other interventions. At HSR Psychology, we provide a solution-focused approach on a whole school basis, in smaller groups or on an individual basis.

What happens after a solution-focused approach?

After a solution-focused approach the individual will be able to use goal-oriented behaviours to reach their targets. Following a solution-focused approach it may be recommended that further follow up sessions are carried out. This will only be suggested if required. Outcomes from the solution-focused approach can be given through a couple of different formats. Either a single feedback session can be arranged, or a written report can be provided if requested.

Does a solution-focused approach come with a report?

We always recommend a report after an intervention, which will include what was carried out, the effects of our involvement and future recommendations. A detailed report can be written after a solution-focused approach highlighting solution behaviours which the child is equipped with and how relevant carers can encourage these behaviours. Reasons for requesting a solution-focused approach vary. If a written report is not requested then feedback can be provided verbally along with a short summary. Find out more about our reports.
