What happens during a video interaction guidance intervention?

There are a variety of ways a video interaction guidance intervention can be used.

For social communication needs, the young individual will be videoed having a conversation with the HSR Psychology professional or with a peer. The child or young person will then be guided through the video, highlighting all the successful interactions during the conversation and encouraged to think about difficult areas of social interactions. The individual will usually reflect on what future goals they wish to set in relation to social communication and will be taught strategies which will support them to achieve these goals.

If an adult supporting the child or young person requests a video interaction guidance intervention then a recording can happen in the home or school. The HSR Psychology professional will then review the recording with the adult and talk through the child or young person’s behaviour and the adult’s responses. This intervention provides adults with strategies and techniques to support a child or young person’s needs.

What happens after a video interaction guidance intervention?

After a video interaction guidance intervention the child, young person or adult will be able to use recommended strategies for reaching future goals and supporting the young person’s individual needs. Follow up sessions are sometimes recommended following a video interaction guidance intervention. The results and impact from a video interaction guidance intervention can be provided in a session with the HSR Psychology professional, or in a written report format if needed.

Does a video interaction guidance intervention come with a report?

We always recommend that a report should be written following an intervention. This will include what took place, the outcome of our involvement and future recommendations. Comprehensive reports are available after a video interaction guidance intervention highlighting strengths, future goals and strategies. Read more about our reports.
